Stephanie Chapman’s Report & Recommendations | February 15 – 21, 2021
2021 is off to a great start with some must- see films. Some of my favorites so far this year are:
• Judas and the Black Messiah- HBO Max
Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield deliver electrifying performances in this gritty and all too real look at the Black Panther movement in the 1960s and the FBI’s attempts to infiltrate and destroy them. Based on a true story this movie will leave you angry and inspired.
• Promising Young Woman- Amazon
Carey Mulligan delivers a passionate performance in this film about the vengeance one woman seeks for the suffering of her best friend, one man at a time. If you’ve seen the trailer, then buckle up because this film delivers on that and so much more.
• The Dig- Netflix
Ralph Fiennes is perfection in this period film about an archeologist and a determined woman (Carey Mulligan) who seek to unearth a piece of history while the rest of the country is on the brink of another world war. It’s a beautiful story about determination, hard work and loyalty. I do not think it’s too early to say that this is one of the best films of 2021.
