December 2020 Week 01 | Monday, November 30, 2020 | Scene-It Streaming Guide
Welcome to the first article of the brand new Scene-It Streaming Guide! Each day, members of Scene-It Cast will provide multiple movie and tv recommendations for you to view on a streaming service!
To kick things off, today, Nolan and Spoiler Steve have provided some post-Thanksgiving suggestions.
Scrooge Movie of the Week
Whether or not your in the holiday spirit, it’s that time of year!
Nolan’s Recommendation:
- Surviving Christmas (2004) – Available on Prime Video, Pluto TV
Almost a reverse Scrooge movie where he visits his past and changes other people’s lives. How Ben Affleck’s career survived this after releasing Daredevil, Gigli, Jersey Girl and Surviving Christmas, back to back to back to back, is absolutely insane. A lesser man’s career would have crumbled after just Daredevil and Gigli in the same year but not Ben Affleck. It’s 91 minutes, try something new and fresh (2004). - Brazil (1985) – Available on Hoopla
It’s the least Christmas-y movie that includes Santa Claus. If you’re an anti-capitalism cynic or you are interested in watching a wild movie about a dystopian society starring Jonathon Pyce and Robert DeNiro (oddly specific taste) then this is what you’re looking for.
Spoiler Steve’s Recommendation:
- The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017) – Available on Hulu
There’s no better way than to start the holiday season than to see Dan Stevens and Christopher Plummer play off each other as Charles Dickens and his creation of Ebenezer Scrooge!
TV Hour
Got an hour or two to kick back and watch some tv? In the holiday mood with some nice hot cocoa? Here’s some tv episodes we recommend for the day:
Nolan Recommends:
- Community S2 E11 – Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu)
- The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air S1 E15 – Deck The Halls (HBO Max, Sling, Direct TV)
- Doogie Howser, M.D. S1 E13 – Doogie The Red Nosed Reindeer (Hulu)
Spoiler Steve Recommends:
- The Big Bang Theory S2 E11 – The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis (HBO Max)
- Frasier S3 E9 – Frasier Grinch (Hulu)
- Hey Arnold! S1 E11 – Arnold’s Christmas (Hulu)
Horrific Mondays
Everybody hates Mondays, so why not watch some scary flicks.
Nolan Recommends:
- Green Room (2015) – Available on Fubo, Showtime, Kanopy, Showtime Amazon
Very gory but the rare horror movie that makes you piece things together as the movie progresses. Patrick Stewart alert! - From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) – Available on Fubo, Direct Tv, Sling
I didn’t know a two genre movie could work so well until I saw this Tarantino written movie starring Clooney, Tarantino, Hayek and Trejo. - Unsane (2018) – Available on Prime video, Kanopy
Masterfully shot on a series of iPhones. The ultimate gas lighting movie. Or is it? Watch and see. - You’re Next (2011) – Available on Peacock, Peacock Premium
An unexpecting horror thriller with surprising character development and some spectacular set design. A new twist on the classic “yelling at your TV” type of slasher.
Spoiler Steve Recommends:
- Ana and the Apocalypse (2017) – Available on Hulu, Prime Video
Musicals, blood AND gore? Sounds crazy. Still haven’t seen it and it feels like the perfect movie to check out between Halloween and Christmas - Alien (1979) – Available on HBOMax
One of my favorite horror movies of all time. Do I need another reasons for you to revisit this masterpiece? - Run (2020) – Available on Hulu
One of the best horror/thrillers of the year, this movie will keep your attention towards the screen the entire time wondering why all of this is happening to Sarah Paulson’s daughter, played by Kiera Allen, the stand out of the film. Hear our full review on episode 210 of Movie Reviews here.
