Feature Friday Movies

Wind River (2017)

Nolan Recommends:

  1. Bacurau (2019) – Available on The Criterion Channel, Kanopy
    My favorite movie from 2019. Don’t let the subtitles deter you, half is in english. Go in blind and thank me later.
  2. Wind River (2017) – Available on Roku Channel, Tubi
    A neo-western set in Wyoming allow’s Jeremy Renner to slowly uncork a mystery that plagues his park. Great performances and brutal violence will leave you feeling satisfied.
  3. Whiplash (2014) – Available on IMDB TV
    My #3 movie of all-time. If growing up you ever had an intense coach or parent then you will be able to relate to this tenfold. Absolutely outstanding acting from Teller and Simmons. I Youtube the ending every so often and get goosebupms every single time. This IS my tempo.

Spoiler Steve Recommends:

  1. Emma. (2020) – Available on HBO Max
    One of the funniest films I’ve seen all year, Anya Taylor-Joy does a magnificent job in this Jane Austen adaptation.
  2. Ingrid Goes West (2017) – Available on Hulu
    A great take on how controlling and mesmerizing social media can be, check out Aubrey Plaza travel across the country to become an influencer like her role model played by Elizabeth Olsen.
  3. The Christmas Chronicles (2018) – Available on Netflix
    Kurt Russell, who makes a fantastic and convincing Santa Claus, is taken down by a pair of siblings who surprisingly get along with each other and the use of CGI for the elves and Santa’s magic is used just right for this generation’s Santa Claus franchise. Worthy Weekend Binges

Justified

Nolan Recommends:

  1. The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst (HBO, HBO Max, Direct Tv)
    If you like true crime, and you have never seen The Jinx, then drop everything you’re doing and watch this 6 part series. An absolutely shocking docu-series that has almost as many facepalm moments as jaw-dropping moments. The ending will not (hopefully) ever be beaten.
  2. The Witcher (Netflix)
    A nice little monster of the week show with some eye candy for everyone. Action, romance and comedy. Give it a shot.
  3. LoveCraft Country (HBO Max, HBO, HBO Now)
    Such a bizarre TV show. After the first two episodes you could tell me literally anything happens and I would have believed you. It moves so quickly, is so out there, yet keeps you wanting more. Jordan Peele’s fingerprints are all over episode 8.
  4. Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes (Netflix)
    Much better than the Zac Efron movie that came out shortly after. You get to hear real conversations with Ted Bundy and witness his psyche unraveling in real time.
  5. Utopia Season 1 (Amazon Prime)
    The plot synopsis for this show does not do it justice. Very entertaining and unique. Filmed prior to the pandemic, it eerily mirrors what is going on in the world today.
  6. Coronation Street
    Checks episode total. Just kidding.

Spoiler Steve Recommends:

  1. Justified Season 1 (Hulu on FX)
    With winter just around the corner, lets follow Raylan Givens head from Miami, Florida back to his hometown in good ol’ Kentucky.
  2. Fargo Season 2 (Hulu on FX)
    Now that Fargo Season 4 is in the books, let’s follow the storyline and head on to the next season in timeline order.
  3. Young Justice Season 1A – Episodes 1-13 (HBO Max)
    Season 4 is on the way, so it’s the perfect time to start or revisit one of the best animated superhero series in the past decade.
  4. Schitt’s Creek Season 1 (Netflix)
    Daniel and Eugene Levy’s groundbreaking series is now complete and available on Netflix. Start the series this weekend if you’re looking for some comedy gold.
  5. Travelers Season 1 (Netflix)
    From the creator of Stargate, check out one of my favorite sci-fi series of all time. The less you know going into it, the better. If you enjoy the pilot, you’ll enjoy the first season.
  6. The Expanse Season 1 (Prime Video)
    Season 5 is just around the corner, so if you’re waiting for all episodes to air, it’s the perfect time to catch up and start season 1. If you like Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones and/or Star Trek, then this series is for you.
