Horrific Mondays | December 28, 2020 | Scene-It Streaming Guide

For the last week the the year, we bring you another scary Monday with recommendations from Kevin!

Favorite Horror Films of 2020:

  1. Uncle Peckerhead (2020) – Prime Video
A punk rock band lands their first tour, but the excitement quickly wears off when a man-eating demon monster joins them as a roadie.
The movie stars David Littleton, Chet Siegel, David Bluvband, Ruth Lolla, Jeff Riddle, Ruby McCollister, Shannon O’Neill, and others.
Uncle Peckerhead combines some of my favorite things: rock music and gory horror. This is a low budget independent film that I’m so happy to have discovered.
  2. The Mortuary Collection (2020) – Shudder
The Mortuary Collection is a horror anthology film which centers around mortician Montgomery Dark and Raven’s End Mortuary.m and has four segments with one main frame story.
The film stars Clancy Brown, Caitlin Custer, Jacob Elordi, Ema Horvath, Sarah Hay, Mike C. Nelson, Jennifer Irwin, James Bachman, and Alison Gallaher, among many other people.
This film was a complete surprise to me this year and each story in the anthology is enjoyable horror with some really good storytelling. The set design is top notch.
  3. Color Out of Space (2020) – Shudder
A secluded farm is struck by a strange meteorite which has apocalyptic consequences for the Gardner family.
The film stars Nicholas Cage, Joely Richardson, Madeleine Arthur, Brendan Meyer, Julian Hilliard, Elliot Knight, and Tommy Chong.
If you like supernatural horror with some serious “what the heck is going on” moments, this movie is for you.

Horrific Mondays:

  1. End Trip (2018) – Prime Video
It’s an average night in an average city and Brandon, a URYDE driver, picks up another fare, who tells the story about a breakup with his girlfriend. Brandon listens to his new friend. But then things start to get messy.
End Trip stars Dean J. West, Aaron Jay Rome, Ashley Lenz, Jaren Mitchell, Michelle West, and Joseph McRae.
End Trip takes one of my fears, ride share services, and amps it up 1000%. Good luck. You’ll probably think twice about hiring that Uber or Lyft next time.
  2. Summer of 84 (2018) – Shudder, Hoopla, Kanopy
A group of friends spend their summer spying on their neighbor, who is a police officer and suspected serial killer. Things get dangerous as they get closer to the truth.
The film stars Graham Verchere, Judah Lewis, Caleb Emery, Cory Gruter-Andrew, Tiera Skovbye, Rich Sommer, Jason Gray-Stanford, Harrison Houde, Mark Brandon, Susie Castillo, and others.
Summer of 84 is one of 2018’s best horror films. It is a slow burn movie and not your typical serial killer film. Please watch this one!
  3. Climax (2019) – Prime Video
A large dance group has a big party and someone spikes the sangria with LSD and everyone loses their mind.
The film stars Sofia Boutella, Kidy Smile, Roman Guillermic, Souheila Yacoub, Claude Gajan Maull, Giselle palmer, Taylor Kastle, and Thea Carla Schott, along with many others.
This is a film that is divisive and I like it and hate it (I mean, it’s a Gaspar Noe film, so that’s expected). It’s an unusual film and a large part of it was unrehearsed and improvised. It’s definitely worth a watch, if for nothing more than the editing, cinematography, choreography, and directing choices.

Scary TV Hour:

  1. Amazing Stories – Mirror, Mirror S01 E19 (Peacock)
A popular horror writer is terrorized by a strange figure in his bathroom mirror.
  2. American Horror Story – Halloween S01 E04 and 05 (Netflix)
This is a two part episode arc within the first season of American Horror Story (Murder House). Part 1 was written by James Wong and was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Costumes for a Miniseries, Movie, or Special.
  3. Black Mirror – Playtest S03 E02 (Netflix)
A man signs up to test a video game in order to score some quick cash, but he quickly finds out that the game is far too horrifyingly advanced.
