December 2020 Week 01 | Tuesday, December 01, 2020 | Scene-It Streaming Guide

Starting day 2 off, we’ll try to lighten the mood with some dramedy recommendations.

Live-Action Christmas Movie

Santa with Muscles (1996)

Nolan Recommends:

  1. Santa With Muscles (1996) – Available on Vudu, Tubi
My #1 worst ranked movie of all time get’s it’s yearly watch suggestion. Don’t knock it till you try it, and then feel free to knock it into the earth. Hulkamania! style.

Spoiler Steve Recommends:

Home Alone (1990) – Available on Disney+
One of my favorites, there’s nothing better than watching two grown men get bamboozled by an eight-year-old.

TV Hour

Friends – The One Where Rachel Quits

Got an hour or two to kick back and watch some tv? In the holiday mood with some nice hot cocoa? Here’s some tv episodes we recommend for the day:

Nolan & Spoiler Steve Recommends:

  1. Friends – The One Where Rachel Quits S3 E10 (HBO Max, Sling, Direct TV, TBS)

Nolan Recommends:

  1. The Jeffersons – George Finds a Father S5 E12 (Starz, Direct TV)
  2. Knight Rider – Silent Knight S2 E12 (Direct TV, NBC)

Spoiler Steve Recommends:

  1. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – Christmas Show S2 E 13 (HBO Max)
  2. King of the Hill – The Unbearable Blindness of Laying S2 E11 (Hulu)

Dramedy Tuesday Movies

The Nice Guys (2016)

For Tuesdays, lets mix some comedy and drama together.

Nolan Recommends:

  1. Pineapple Express (2008) – Available on Netflix
The first time I watched this it barely held my attention and I only thought it was a little bit funny. It’s gotten funnier on every watch and is endlessly quotable. I don’t even smoke! Well just snicklefritz from time to time.
  2. The Farewell (2019) – Available on Prime Video, Kanopy
This movie completely knocked me on my ass. Having only one living grandparent (grandma) made this hit very close to home. I watched it alone, and when I started to tell my wife about it I had to stop. She was very close with her grandma who sadly passed unexpectedly. I’d love for her to see this beautiful film, however I don’t believe either of us would be ready to watch it together. You’ll be calling your parents and/or grandparents after this one. A must watch.
  3. The Nice Guys (2016) – Available on Hulu
One of the most underrated dark comedies out there. I feel like this movie isn’t talked about nearly enough and I need to do my duty spreading the good word. When Ryan Gosling punches the window *chef’s kiss*.

Spoiler Steve Recommends:

  1. El Camino Christmas (2017) – Available on Netflix
This film is pretty ridiculous but I recommend if you’re interested in a nontraditional 90 minute Christmas movie with Tim Allen.
  2. A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (2011) – Available on HBOMax
While this is the third in the franchise, there’s not much you need to know to enjoy this comical Christmas story.
  3. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) – Available on Prime Video
For me, this film has one of the best scenes in the history of film. While Prime Video only shows this in color, I’d rather see it in the original black and white. Either way, it just doesn’t feel like the holiday season until George Bailey helps Clarence earn his wings.
